Welcome to Liège!

Liège and UNIC's Centre for City Futures

Our ULiège team leverage the power of collaboration locally and across the alliance network for best impact in our City.

A topic that is currently in focus under UNIC Thematic Line 3 Urban Resilience and Smart Cities matches the Liège City-Led Challenge.

Housing for All – In recent years, housing-related issues have worsened in our cities. Access to housing is becoming increasingly difficult due to multiple factors: the energy crisis, a limited housing supply exacerbated by high vacancy rates, an ageing building stock and the challenges of its conversion, rising construction and renovation costs, and more. Simultaneously, housing demand is rising among increasingly vulnerable groups, notably migrants, older adults, and single-parent households.

We welcome new city and research collaborations in this area as well as in other City-Led Challenges and invite you to connect with us to explore possibilities for developing partnership initiatives.

CityLabs - Connect and Co-Create

Our CityLabs activities provide opportunities for diverse groups to connect and co-create. Some of the things we have worked on include:

General Dream Festival – 22.04.2024.

The final day of the Festival Rêve Général was entirely dedicated to the "One Health" concept. In the afternoon, the UNIC team from ULiège and the City of Liège held an in-person roundtable discussion focused on the question: "What is the role of the city in a One Health policy, and how do we connect with the University?"

Hybrid CityLab on Urban Resilience – 28.11.2024
In-person CityLab on Housing – 19.05.2025. This event is part of a series of CityLabs on Housing, with the next sessions planned for December 2025, February 2026, and April 2026.

In-person CityLab on Sanctuary Cities – 27.05.2025.
Virtual and international CityLab on Sanctuary Cities – 13.11.2025.

CityLab on Soil Health – 03.12.2025
