Liège, a Sanctuary City? Practices, Tensions, and Perspectives in Debate

This initiative aimed to explore and discuss solidarity actions for migrants implemented in the city of Liège by a wide range of actors across various sectors. The event focused on presenting these initiatives, their approaches, objectives, and points of tension, in dialogue with students, researchers, and civil society representatives.

During the discussions, concrete proposals were analyzed to address some of the challenges faced by migrants in the city or related to their lived experiences.

  • Elisa Sanchez (Master’s student in Migration and Ethnic Studies at ULiège, on a service-learning placement with the City of Liège – WELDI project – URBACT)
  • Pauline Ansay (Point d’appui, Liège Ville Hospitalière, Carte Ardente)
  • Rosario Marmol Perez (École des solidarités)
  • Students from Eclosio (ULiège’s NGO)
  • Nathalie Petitjean (citizen host in Liège)

Introduction, moderation, and conclusion were provided by CEDEM (Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies at ULiège) and UNIC (European University).
