Go Green with the Train instead of Plane Scheme

UNIC promotes green mobility to keep the ecological footprint of our European University as small as possible. With our Train instead Plane (TIP) opportunity, we provide 15 grants per year for students who commit to traveling by train when they start their study abroad as an exchange student at one of the UNIC universities.

By traveling by train instead of plane, you are not only helping the environment, you also get the opportunity to visit other countries and cities on the way!

Eligibility requirements:

• you have been selected at your home university for an exchange stay at a UNIC university (for example under the Erasmus programme)
• your host university must be located more than 350km away from your home university.

The TIP Scheme will involve grants of €168, which is the cost of a RailRunner ticket for 3 days per month. Grant applications will first be selected (to see whether the train offers a sustainable alternative and fits the >350km rule) and then awarded in a lottery.

Application is open now for students selected for an exchange stay within UNIC for the upcoming winter semester 2021/22. Please send an email application to the International Office at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (laura.schiffmann@uv.rub.de) with the following attachments:

• Scanned copy of your student ID
• Scanned copy of the confirmation of your exchange nomination at one of the UNIC universities
