Double Degree Programme with Ruhr University Bochum (2026)

We encourage students from the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Lodz to participate in a dual degree programme with Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) – our UNIC Alliance partner. If you'd like to spend a semester abroad and receive a degree from both universities, this programme is for you! Applications are open until 23 February 2026.

The UNIC Alliance offers students numerous mobility opportunities, including the opportunity to work on a double degree in cooperation with partner universities. Studying abroad is not only an opportunity to develop your language skills but also to immerse yourself in the academic culture of a foreign institution and appreciate the diverse cultures that make up this unique alliance of 10 universities of post-industrial cities. And perhaps most importantly, to forge long-lasting friendships with students from other countries.

Faculty of Philology, University of Lodz

The programme is intended for students studying English Philology, MA studies (currently the first year of MA studies). Students who choose this programme will spend one semester (winter 2026) at the University of Bochum and write an MA thesis under the joint supervision of supervisors from both centres. As part of their classes at the German university, students from the University of Lodz will have an opportunity to choose courses tailored to the literary or linguistics profile of their master's specialisation. Credits earned during the semester spent at Ruhr University will be used to complete the semester at the University of Lodz.

Programme Participation Rules

Applicants for the dual degree programme are obliged to:

  • have a minimum grade point average of 4.0,
  • present a MA thesis plan,
  • attend an interview with a coordinator and a specialist in the thesis's subject area (the interview is dedicated to the thesis),
  • sign an agreement that lists the courses and credits at RUB that will be completed.

The fields in which the thesis is written should be compatible with the English studies profile at RUB, as the thesis is written under the supervision of supervisors from both universities.

Admissions

The cost of your stay may be partially covered by funding obtained through the Erasmus+ application. Participation in this exchange requires separate application in accordance with the programme regulations and schedule (go to the Erasmus+ application page).

The call for the double degree programme for first-year MA students in English Philology will be open from 26 January to 23 February 2026. Please send your application to: michal.lachman@uni.lodz.pl.
