Science Communication Workshop

Join us for the UNIC 'Science Communication' Workshop 

Organized by the University of Deusto and Koç University, the ‘Science Communication’ workshop aims to build an understanding of what research communication is and introduce participants to the key tools and techniques that support and develop competence in communicating research. The workshop is open to all students and researchers at Koç University, University of Deusto and Ruhr University Bochum who are in their final year of undergraduate study, studying for an MA, PhD candidates or early career researchers interested in improving their research communication design.

Date: April 4, 2022, 14:00-17:00 CET / 15:00-18:00 (Istanbul time)

Modality: Online (via Zoom)

Duration: 3 hours

Expected learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop the participants will be able to:

• Understand what research communication is and how it can help you in your academic career
• Learn about the differences between academic writing and other types of writing
• Learn about how you can build awareness about your research and generate impact
• Understand the importance of communication and dissemination of research
• Understand the ethical concerns around research communication
• Design a communications action plan for your research

Program

• Interdisciplinary communication: Bridging research and audiences. The principles of research communication
• Academic writing: Key issues
• Visual communication: How to make the most of your data
• 'I have done the research and written the article… now what?' The communications action plan
• Ethics and theory behind science communication

Eligibility

Students and researchers from University of Deusto, Koç University and Ruhr Bochum University who meet the following can participate in the workshop: 

• Final year undergraduate students
• MA students & PhD candidates
• Researchers from different disciplines interested in improving their impact or boosting their influence
