  • The University reflects the local and regional community, embraces diversity as a dimension of quality in education and research, and educates students for life-long learning to become agents of change for a sustainable global society.

  • The University has, since its inauguration in 1998, been an essential driver in the urban transformation of the City of Malmö from an industrial town to a centre of learning. The institution plays a major role in identifying societal needs and has multiple close collaborations with local stakeholders in private, public and non-profit sectors.

The City

  • Malmö has, in the past decades, transformed from a city with a shipyard industry in decline into a vibrant, multicultural entrepreneurial metropole, attracting young people, exploratory art and culture, and innovative new businesses.

  • Malmö is the third largest city in Sweden. Its 300 000 inhabitants represent more than 180 nationalities, and half of the population is under the age of 35.

  • Malmö strives to be a socially, economically, environmentally and culturally sustainable city, and different actors from businesses to city authorities are working closely together to reduce inequalities in wellbeing, especially among children and youth.
