Welcome to Łódź!

Łódź and UNIC's Centre for City Futures

Our Łódź team leverage the power of collaboration locally and across the alliance network for best impact in our City.

We welcome new city and research collaborations in these areas and invite you to connect with us to explore possibilities for developing partnership initiatives.

City-Led Challenges that are currently in focus in Łódź are managed through the UniLodz Science Hub collaboration platform. Twelve interdisciplinary teams are tackling key city-led challenges in Łódź during 2025–2026. These projects span a wide spectrum – from technological innovations and educational solutions to environmental and health-focused initiatives – demonstrating how universities and the city can work hand in hand to co-create a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban future.

CityLabs - Connect and Co-Create

Some of the initiatives we have worked on in 2024-2025 include:

EcoBudget Łódź – University of Lodz Experts Supported Citizen-Led Environmental Projects

In January 2025, the first edition of the EcoBudget invited Łódź residents to submit ideas for improving forest parks, resulting in 19 proposals ranging from tree planting and removal of invasive species to creating educational paths. More than 1,000 residents pledged to take part, and university researchers supported the process by leading participatory workshops, helping to refine the projects and align them with the city’s ecological and community needs.

Making Heritage Accessible: Friendly City Project in Łódź

This project makes the city’s architectural heritage accessible to people with visual impairments through an innovative mobile application connected to 200 beacon devices installed at landmarks and transport stops. The app provides multilingual audio descriptions enriched with a dictionary of architectural details, enabling users to independently explore Łódź’s most iconic sites. By combining advanced technology with interdisciplinary expertise, the project positions Łódź as a model for accessible cities internationally.
