The University of Deusto, a member of the Network of Gender Equality Units for University Excellence (RUIGEU), strongly supports the RUIGEU's call for Spanish Universities to take action in providing programs, grants, scholarships, and other forms of support to Afghan teachers and students, as demonstrated by the ERASMUS program's ONLINE LINGUISTIC SUPPORT initiative.

Amid the Taliban's takeover of Kabul, the RUIGEU released a statement highlighting the critical importance of upholding the right to education for Afghan women and girls. The difficulties, barriers, and restrictions they face in accessing schools gravely undermine their fundamental human right to education, effectively nullifying it.

The discriminatory closure of secondary schools for adolescent girls while male schools continue to operate vividly reflects the Taliban government's hostility towards respecting the education rights of women and girls. By impeding, limiting, or outright denying them this basic right, the endemic violence they endure becomes evident.

Education ensures communities' intellectual development and autonomy, enabling individuals to lead dignified and independent lives. It is crucial that girls and women are not deprived of their right to education in any way.
