A two-and-a-half-day seminar was held between 27 and 29 May 2024 on the Sart-Tilman campus (Université de Liège) with the objective of enabling participants in the UNIC4ER - Critical Zones project to get to know each other.

Partners

The first day provided an opportunity for the partners to present their teams and previous work. Each participant presented a potential case study to contribute to a joint project entitled "Water management in Critical Zones: Understanding the conditions and dynamics of citizen engagement, knowledge co-creation and cooperation with public authorities and HEIs".

On day two, a field trip was organised along the Semois river in collaboration with the environment preservation organization Contrat rivière Semois-Chiers.

The third day of the programme focused on sharing collaborative research methodologies, with a particular emphasis on the dynamics between researchers, associations and public authorities. In particular, we discussed the problem of ecological restoration (removal of dams) of a river and its consequences for different users. This included an analysis of the diagnostic and issue-based challenges encountered in the case study, as well as an exploration of potential avenues for future research collaboration, particularly in the context of EU funding.
