The Kummi (Support) Family Programme at the University of Oulu links international students with local families. This initiative provides a valuable cross-cultural encounter, allowing participants to interact, share time, and partake in diverse activities. Ever since its establishment in 1995, the Kummi Family Programme has been uniting the University's international students with local families. The programme provides international students with an opportunity to explore Finnish culture and way of life beyond the university grounds, enhancing the educational journey. It delivers a favorable cultural encounter for both students and host families. The program also facilitates cultural exchange, fostering friendships between local households and international students. The programme runs September-May each academic year. The university organises a get-together meeting in the beginning the autumn semester. The family and the student then plan and decide together how often they meet and how they wish to spend their time together between September-May.
