In collaboration with the Industrial Engineering Society (IES), the Pop-Up City Lab was organized in order to solve the logistics and technological problems that will occur during and especially after the expected Marmara earthquake, was held "Online" on April 7-8, 2023. Ideathon juries consisted of scientists, disaster experts and field workers trained in the fields of Geology, Disaster Management and Logistics from Turkey.
Before the ideathon: Students applied in groups and filled out the form by sharing their ideas on how to better solve logistics problems before/after an earthquake. Among the 20 groups that applied to participate, the Industrial Engineering Society selected 6 groups to participate in the ideathon, based on their topics and the comprehensive approach they applied to the concept of disaster management.
During the ideathon: After welcoming speeches, Prof. Sibel Salman presented the Istanbul case from a scientific point of view, and what problems await in a possible earthquake with a magnitude over 7. Then, groups were given a challenge on the topic of disaster management and logistics. The groups made their presentations after completing the 24-hour time. The presentations were evaluated by the Jury and selected groups were given points.
After the ideathon: At the end of the event, the ideas of the first selected three groups are planned to be forwarded to the teams such as AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), AHBAP (NGO) and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which are in the field after the earthquake, and a meeting will be organized to implement these ideas
Program of the ideathon: The workshop took place online via Zoom between April 7th and 8th 2023, from 10:00am (07.04.2023) to 13:30 (08.04.2023).

Following the ideathon, the ideas generated by the top three groups are planned to be forwarded to organizations such as AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), AHBAP (Solidarity Association for the Social Support), and IBB (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality) - teams actively involved in post-earthquake operations. A meeting will be organized to discuss the implementation of these ideas and their potential contribution to managing future seismic events effectively.
The ideathon served as a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and proposals in the field of disaster management and logistics. By engaging with experts and receiving feedback from the jury, the event aimed to promote collaboration between academia and relevant organizations to address the challenges posed by earthquakes and enhance preparedness and response strategies in the Marmara region.
