This three-days city lab was consisted of a series of expert lectures, workshops, field visits, and interactive sessions dedicated to sustainability, circular economy, climate resilience, urban mobility, and collaborative governance in the context of sustainable urban development in the City of Zagreb. The programme included presentations by representatives of the University of Zagreb, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the City of Zagreb, the UNIC student board, and partner organisations on topics such as green public procurement, circular economy in the construction sector, sustainability research in civil and environmental engineering, climate-resilient urban planning, and green city projects. The participant also took part in the Zagreb Greenway cycling experience and field visits related to the sustainable urban infrastructure and the ActGreen project, as well as in a City Lab interactive session focused on collaborative governance, post-industrial cities, and sustainability through interdisciplinary discussion and group. work. The CityLab was made possible thanks to the support of the A.A. van Beek Fund.

Programme was carried out in multiple locations: ZG Forum as a place for events held by Centre for City Futures, City office for transport, Faculty of Architecture at the University of Zagreb, and during field visits in several historic courtyards and Greenway cycling route.

UNIC City Lab “Perspectives on Sustainability: Case Study of the City of Zagreb” was organised by UNIC Centre for City Futures, University of Zagreb, in cooperation with Alberto Quintavalla, Renée Knoop, Deniz Karagoz from Erasmus University Rotterdam. The City Lab was held from 18 – 20 May 2026. It was delivered through an interdisciplinary programme dedicated to sustainability, circular economy, climate resilience, collaborative governance, and sustainable urban development. The programme brought together representatives of the University of Zagreb, the City of Zagreb, research institutions, and civil society organisations through expert lectures, workshops, interactive discussions, field visits, and experiential learning activities.

The session is organised as a teaching-oriented interactive format combining guided discussion and group work. REPIC joint study programme students and EUR students, with the guidance of professors of law and architecture, discuss selected themes from their research and reflect on their sustainability aspects.
